ASICS has unveiled the newest evolution of its high-performance running range with the launch of the METASPEED™ SKY TOKYO, METASPEED™ EDGE TOKYO, and the all-new METASPEED™ RAY. Designed to suit a range of running styles, the new series empowers athletes to run more efficiently and confidently as they chase their personal bests.
Developed at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science in collaboration with elite athletes, the collection represents the pinnacle of innovation in lightweight performance footwear. The standout of the series is the METASPEED™ RAY, weighing just 129 grams, making it one of the lightest carbon-plated distance racing shoes on the market. Built with ASICS’ new FF LEAP™ foam and a minimal carbon plate, the RAY delivers a bouncy, weightless ride, ideal for forefoot strikers seeking explosive energy return.
Joining the lineup are updated versions of ASICS’ beloved METASPEED™ SKY and EDGE, now renamed TOKYO editions in tribute to the brand’s home city. The SKY is optimised for stride-style runners, while the EDGE is designed for cadence-style runners, those who increase speed by taking more steps rather than longer ones. Both models now feature a combination of FF LEAP™ and FF TURBO™ PLUS foams, enhanced stability, and an updated MOTION WRAP 3.0 upper for a lighter, more breathable fit.
To celebrate the launch, ASICS hosted the Tokyo : Speed : Race, a unique mass-participation event that brought together over 2,750 runners of all levels on a fast course next to the Japan National Stadium. The launch also sets the stage for ASICS’ continued presence at the forefront of global athletics, with the METASPEED™ series set to take center stage at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 this September.
